a professional society registered in April 1985 under the Societies
Registration Act., 1860 and subsequently under the Public Trusts
Act, 1950. IPI was formally inaugurated on 6th May, 1985 after taking
over the affairs and assets and liabilities of Plastics & Rubber
Institute, London (PRI) - Indian Section (Plastics) as of 30th April
1985, which was established in June 1963 as an Overseas Section
of Plastics Instiute, London.

a countrywide membership of professionals engaged in the plastic
industry. It keeps its members abreast with the latest developments
in raw materials, processing, applications, tooling and plant and
equipment related to plastics. This is achieved through seminars,
lecture meetings and workshops conducted at different chapters and
sub-chapters throughout the country.
Diploma
of Indian Plastics Institute (DIPI) qualification is well recognised
by the industry. What is special about the Diploma in Indian Plastics
Institute (DIPI) course conducted by IPI is that while it is strong
in fundamentals, it is equally relevant to the needs of the industry.
As IPI's membership is drawn from the industry as well as the academic
world, it forms an excellent interface between the two.
Objectives
The Main Objects of the Institute are :
To advance and develop for the benefit of its members and the
public, the art, science, technology and engineering of plastics,
natural and synthetic high polymers and other related materials.
To form and organise a strong professional body of those connected
or concerned with plastics, natural and synthetic high polymers
and other related materials.
To institute, supervise, advise upon and advance the standard
and methods of education and training at all levels in the fields
of plastics, natural and synthetic, high polymers and other related
materials and in related technical and non-technical subjects,
including finance and management thereof.
To project plastics, natural and synthetic high polymers and
other related materials as eco friendly materials with excellent
recyclability and their contribution in conserving natural resources
and saving energy.
To project the vital contribution of plastics, natural and synthetic
high polymers and related materials in various fields of national
economy and the role they play in improving agricultural productivity
and in cost effective protection, preservation, storage and handling
of products in infrastructure development; in economizing construction
costs; in providing affordable healthcare.
To disseminate for public awareness all relevant information
about plastics, natural and synthetic high polymers and related
materials so as to remove myths and misconceptions arising out
of ignorance and to educate public, NGOs and policy makers and
the media about the beneficial role plastics play in improving
overall quality of life.

The administration of IPI is governed by two tier
concept:
1. The Presidential Board
to advise, oversee and guide the Governing Council
to achieve the objectives of the institute.
2. Governing Council
the executive authority - for day-to-day
functioning with Head Office in Mumbai and active Regional Chapters
/ Sub-Chapters, all over India. There are 5 Regional Centers, Western, Northern,Central, Eastern and Southern Regions, each supervised by a Regional Advisor. He will be accountable to the Governing Council
The G.C. appoints Committees / Sub. Committees to advice, guide,
supervise and to assist in important matters relating to the administration
and the activities of the Institute. Presently there are the following

IPI's involvement in other institutions :
As a Founder Member of Plastindia Foundation, it takes active interest
in organising the various PLASTINDIA Exhibitions and International
Conferences.
Being a permanent member on the Governing Council
of CIPET, Chennai, Senior Members of IPI take keen interest in the
formulation of policies and implementation of various Training programmes
of CIPET.
An Endowment at UDCT now "UICT", Mumbai
for visiting faculty for delivering lectures on Plastics Processing,
year after year, has been set up by IPI.
IPI's representatives are on the Advisory Board of
Bureau of Indian Standards for Plastics.
IPI maintains excellent rapport with various plastics
Technological Institutions all over India and many of them encourage
their staff to do IPI activities, and some even to start Chapters
/ Sub-Chapters at their premises.
